Privacy Policy

Taylor Detector is a free tool that helps you check whether a product's brand is associated with Taylor Farms. This page explains what data the app collects and how it's used.
What we collect
Camera access. When you scan a barcode, the app uses your device's camera to read it. Video from your camera is processed entirely on your device to detect the barcode — it is never recorded, stored, or transmitted to us or anyone else.
Photo uploads. If you choose to upload a photo instead of using your camera, the image is processed entirely on your device to detect the barcode. It is never uploaded to our servers, stored, or transmitted anywhere — it exists only in your browser's memory for the moment it takes to attempt a decode, then is discarded.
Barcode numbers. When a barcode is successfully scanned, the number is sent to Open Food Facts, a third-party public product database, to look up the product's brand name. We do not attach any personal information to this request. Open Food Facts' own privacy practices govern how they handle that request: https://world.openfoodfacts.org/privacy
Basic analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand general usage of the app — things like which pages are visited and how often. This may include standard technical data such as device type, approximate location (city/region level, derived from IP address), and browser information. Google's privacy policy applies to this data: https://policies.google.com/privacy
What we don't collect
Taylor Detector has no user accounts, no login, and no payment processing. We do not collect your name, email address, or any other personal identifier. We do not sell or share data with advertisers.
Brand reference data
The list of Taylor Farms brands and subsidiaries used to check your scans is static reference data we maintain — it is not connected to you or your scan history in any way.
Data retention
We do not retain a history of what you've scanned. Analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics' standard retention settings.
Children's privacy
Taylor Detector is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the effective date above will be updated. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the revised policy.
Disclaimer
Taylor Detector is an independent, unofficial tool and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Taylor Farms in any way. Brand match results are provided for informational purposes only and should not be treated as a guarantee — see the confidence label shown with each result.
Browser extension
Taylor Detector is also available as a browser extension. Here's what it does and doesn't do:
What it reads. On pages you visit, the extension reads the page title, heading text, and basic product-identifying metadata (the kind of information already visible on the page) to check whether it matches a brand in our database.
What it never does. It never reads page content beyond titles and headings, never records your browsing history, never transmits anything you view to any server, and never tracks which sites you visit. All matching happens locally in your browser.
What it stores. The extension keeps a local, cached copy of our public brand database (the same data available at taylordetector.com), refreshed automatically about twice a day. This cache contains only brand names and our notes about them — nothing about you or your browsing.
When it shows anything. The extension is silent by default. It only displays a small banner when a page appears to match a brand in our database with a documented Taylor Farms connection. It never displays anything for pages with no match.
